Aguman Sanduk (Minalin, Pampanga)
For 90 years now, the town of Minalin, Pampanga has held a festive cross-dressing parade to welcome the New Year: the Aguman Sanduk (Fellowship of the Ladle). On the afternoon of January 1, men in Minalin cross-dress and parade to the town poblacion (center) for the crowning of the Aguman Sanduk Queen. This festival started in 1931 when a group of men decided to cross-dress to give joy to the townspeople after Minalin suffered from a drought. The ladle symbolizes bountiful food, conquering the drought, and ushering in a new year full of blessings and harvests.
