Acd. Aura Matias completed his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering (1982) and Master of Science in Industrial Engineering (1989) at UP Diliman, and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering (1996) at Purdue University West Lafayette, Indiana.

She was elected a member of the NAST PHL in 2011.

Dr. Aura C. Matias is recognized for her significant contributions in the field of industrial engineering research and education towards sustainable development and environmental management. The public assessment of water services (PAWS) based on network quality, water quality, and service quality, developed by Dr. Matias has been recognized as a key performance indicator of the Manila water system concessionaires.

Dr. Matias’ assessment study of 18 government agencies regarding the perception of corruption resistance among their employees in terms of leadership, organization, procurement, manpower recruitment, and promotion, resulted in important baseline information for programs to build integrity among the employees which are now being utilized.

Her involvement in various governmental projects has generated new knowledge and crucial information that form the basis of government policy formulation and decision-making structures. Her mentoring capabilities have been highly regarded and encompass not only the field of industrial engineering but other engineering disciplines as well.

She currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at the College of Engineering, University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman. She has served as Dean of the College of Engineering, UP Diliman and

Executive Director of the National Engineering Center, UP Campus. She also serves as the editorial board member of the International Journal of Human Factors and Ergonomics in Manufacturing and Services Industries, Chairman of the Department of Industrial Engineering & Operations Research, UP Diliman, and President of the Philippine Ergonomic Society.

She was awarded The Outstanding Woman in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) by the TOWNS Foundation, Inc. in 2004, the Outstanding Engineering Professor (Confucian Award) of the UP Engineering Research & Development Foundation, Inc. in 2007, UP Alumni Engineers Top 100 Outstanding Engineers in 201O, and DOST’s Outstanding Science Administrator Award in 2015.

She was born on 11 September 1960.
