Barasoain Church is as old as its town when it was built as a chapel in 1859. It evolved into a stone structure that was destroyed and rebuilt in the years that followed.
In 1885, the church was rebuilt in the eclectic architectural style – a mix of Baroque, Romanesque, and Renaissance – that we see today.
Barasoain Church witnessed significant moments in the country’s history, particularly the inauguration of the First Philippine Republic in 1899.
The First Philippine Congress was inaugurated in Malolos. This Congress would draft the Malolos Constitution, which would pave the way for the inauguration of the First Philippine Republic on January 23, 1899.
All these historic events were witnessed by the Nuestra SeƱora del Carmen Parish Church or the Barasoain Church. The town and parish of Barasoain, then separate from Malolos, was founded in 1859. The current church was built in 1885.
