On this day, December 31, in 1882 the Spanish government abolished the tobacco monopoly. There are only five cigarette factories that produce a good product. As the factory increased, the quality of this product decreased. Factory proliferation and poor quality were somewhat remedied by imposing a tax on cigarettes.
