Another component in traditional Maranao betel chewing is the dodai. The dodai is a brass spittoon (a metal or earthenware pot typically having a funnel-shaped top, used for spitting into) for the reddish saliva of betel nut chewers.

According to some studies the dodai may also contain water when it is used for washing hands before and after eating.
