Fort San Antonio Abad – Malate
Established on a swampy promontory in 1584 to guard the road between Manila and Cavite. First line of defense of Manila in case of a landward invasion. Used primarily as a powder magazine or polvorin. Captured by British forces in 1762 during the Siege of Manila. Damaged and captured by U.S. forces during the mock Battle of Manila in 1898. Used by Japanese troops. Damaged in 1945. Restored in the 1970s. Currently located within the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas complex.
