The Hotel de Oriente was a first-class hotel that opened its doors in 1889. It was owned by Don Manuel Perez Marqueti, with the hotel being designed by Spanish architect Juan Jose Huervas y Arizmendi. It featured 83 rooms and had stables for 25 horses. Dr. Jose Rizal stayed in the hotel in June 1892, a few weeks before being arrested and deported to Dapitan.

The hotel changed ownership until it was bought by the US colonial government in 1903. It was later used and turned into a barracks for the Philippine Constabulary. It was destroyed during an American air raid in September 1944.
