Leche Flan History
Leche Flan is a Filipino dessert believed to have been brought over by the Spaniards in the 16th century.
“Leche” means milk and “Flan” means creme caramel in Spanish. Creme Caramel, of European origin, uses cream, but the Filipino Leche Flan instead uses condensed and evaporated milk for that creamy flavor.
It is commonly served during special occasions such as birthdays, fiestas, or holidays (Christmas and New Year’s Eve).
