Napoleon Abueva’s 1967 wood piece “Legaspi and the Founding of Manila” is a remarkable example of his skill in combining historical narrative with modernist sensibilities.
This sculpture, which is part of The Manila Pavilion reliefs, commemorates the founding of Manila by the Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi on June 24, 1571, an event that marked a significant turning point in Philippine history.
