Mexican Independence
Spain had a lot of colonies, and Mexico was the biggest. Many Mexicans were not happy with the way they were treated by the Spaniards. As such, the Mexicans led a revolution. This was started in 1810 by Miguel Hidalgo and ended in 1821 when Mexico was finally freed and Agustín de Iturbide was declared as the country’s first president.
It would take many years before the Philippines got its own independence in 1898. The Mexican revolution is important in our history because it showed that the Philippines can also be freed from Spanish rule if only we united as a nation. In unity
there is strength.
