Noli Me Tangere Original Copy
Not every day you can see the original copy of Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.
Without a doubt, Noli Me Tangere is the Philippines’ most influential novel.
Consisting of 63 chapters, this novel is written by the country’s national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, exposing the atrocities of Philippine society under Spanish colonization.
It was written in Spanish and was published in 1887 in Berlin with an initial 2,000 copies.
El Filibusterismo on the other hand consists of 39 chapters and is centrally focused on the use of violence as another option for the Filipino people to gain freedom from Spaniards.
Both novels are part of the school curriculum for high school students and are mandatory for Jose Rizal’s course in college.
These were displayed together with other important manuscripts at the National Library of the Philippines in Manila last November in observance of Library and Information Services Month.
