Pampanga Capital:
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO
The City of San Fernando is Pampanga’s capital and 2nd largest city. It is also the regional center of Central Luzon.
It is named after King Ferdinand VI of Spain and placed under the patronage of Saint Ferdinand III of Castile and León, whose feast is celebrated every May 30.
The City of San Fernando is popularly known as the Christmas Capital of the Philippines and the Home of the Giant Lanterns.
Brief History of San Fernando:
The town of San Fernando was founded in 1754 from neighboring barrios on the border of the towns of Mexico and Bacolor, the first 2 capitals of Pampanga.
The town of Angeles, now the most populous city of Pampanga, was separated from San Fernando in 1829.
San Fernando formally became the capital of Pampanga when the Pampanga provincial government was transferred from Bacolor to San Fernando in 1904.
San Fernando officially became a city (and the 2nd city of Pampanga, after Angeles) on February 4, 2001.
