Philippine Wild Duck (Anas luzonica)
The Philippines’ only endemic duck is a wild duck that inhabits the wetlands of Pampanga! The productive duck egg industry of the province from these wild ducks is honored during the Ibon-Ebon festival at the start of February. The population of this species is continuously declining due to high levels of hunting and trapping, clearing of mangroves for shrimp farms, development of wetlands for aquaculture and fishponds, and increasing amounts of pesticide use on rice paddies.
