Philippine Women’s University – Malate
Located along Taft Avenue. A school for women established in 1919 by female educators and Filipino lawyers, Initially called the Philippine Women’s College, the institution was elevated into a university in 1932 and became the Philippine Women’s University. The campus was used as a hospital of the USAFFE in 1941.
The campus was severely damaged during the Battle of Manila in 1945. PWU rebuilt its campus after the war and expanded to other places. PWU became a co-ed school in the 1970s.
