Puente entre Ilo-ilo y Jaro / Bridge between Ilo-ilo and Jaro
The iron bridge built and erected over this river, called Tabucan, was destroyed by a tremendous hurricane, and a provisional bridge was built over it.
Near the bridge is Casa Real, the seat of government in Iloilo. It is a magnificent building of modern construction with a beautiful gazebo of varied and scented flowers.
Boats are anchored and used for loading sugar and unloading wood and other merchandise.
Iloilo and Jaro used to be separate municipalities during the Spanish colonial period in the Philippines. Jaro was founded as a pueblo in 1581, while Iloilo was established in 1586.
In 1886, the Queen of Spain made the town of Jaro a city (ayutamiento). It also covers La Paz area.
By 1889, the Queen of Spain officially elevated Iloilo as a city by virtue of a royal decree.
They remained distinct until 1937 when they were merged to form the present-day city of Iloilo.
