The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) turned over the newly restored Punta Diamante in Bulusan, Sorsogon this morning, 26 July 2023.
NHCP Chairman Dr. Emmanuel Franco Calairo and the Most Rev. Jose Allan V. Dialogo, D.D., Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sorsogon, signed the turn-over documents. Bulusan Mayor Michael G. Guysayko, NHCP Finance and Administration Division Chief Ms. Rosario V. Sapitan, and Rev. Joel A. Bilan, Jr., Parish Priest of St. James the Greater Parish, served as witnesses.
Bulos Aguingay Chorale sang the National Anthem while Fr. Joel A. Bilan, Jr., Parish Priest of St. James the Greater Parish, led the invocation.
Bulusan Mayor welcomed the guests to the event while NHCP Chairman Calairo gave a message before the turn-over documents were signed. Bishop Dialogo also gave a message after formally accepting the restored site.
The Punta Diamante watchtower base is shaped like a diamond and tapers upwards in alternating tiers, hence the name. The fort complex is the last remaining structure of its kind in Sorsogon.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote and preserve Philippine historical heritage through research and publication, conservation, marking of historic sites and structures, and administration of national shrines and museums.
