Remembering the National Artist for Film on his 24th death anniversary. National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts (September 30, 1938 – June 2, 1996)

Ishmael Bernal held a mirror of truth to society and the country. For his contemporaries and surely generations of storytellers to come, he serves as a testament to how film reflects the psyche of a community and its people. Here’s to Direk Ishmael and his legacy.
