SALA RECIBIDOR (San Agustin Museum)
This room was used in the early years, at the end of the 16th Century, as an aula or classroom, where the Filipinos were taught music, art, catechism, and the three Rs: (Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, and Religion). Here was the first formal school in the Philippines.
During the 18th Century, it became the office of the Procurator, who was responsible for the administration of the Augustinian Friars’ temporal goods. In 1877, this place was assigned as sala recibidor to receive guests.
Since 1970, it has been part of the San Agustin Museum, showcasing different collections through the years.
