SALAKOT ARCH (Kapampángan Landmark}
Angeles City, Pampanga
One of the landmarks of Angeles City and Clark is the big Salakot Arch at Bayanihan Park. The roof of this big arch is shaped like a salakót (turung in Kapampángan), the traditional Filipino conical hat. It was built to commemorate the revision of the Military Bases Agreement between the Philippine and United States governments in 1979 which recognized Philippine sovereignty over Clark Air Base, the largest overseas American air force base which was then controlled by the US. It was formerly situated as a welcome arch to Clark from Angles but was moved a few meters away to its current location at Bayanihan Park.
