Perhaps the most popular Kapampángan song known all over the Philippines is the folk song Atin Cu Pung Singsing.
The song is a first-person monologue of someone who lost their heirloom bejeweled ring given by their mother after keeping it in a chest. The song ends with them offering their heart to anyone who finds it.
The song is classified as a basultu (a people’s song that often has an allegorical theme) that has a triple meter and its melody originates from 18th-century Spanish and Mexican folk songs that are very characteristic of the music of this era.
The song has been interpreted by popular Filipino artists such as Lea Salonga (who has Kapampángan ancestry from her father) in Ryan Cayabyab‘s Bahaghari album, Freddie Aguilar, and Nora Aunor.
