Historical Independence Day in Pampanga
The first anniversary of Philippine Independence on June 12, 1899, was celebrated at the Pamintuan Mansion in Angeles City, Pampanga where 1st Philippine President Emilio Aguinaldo waved the Philippine flag from the 2nd-floor balcony of the house.
Philippine Independence Day History
The Philippines declared independence from Spain on June 12, 1898, before it was ceded to the United States.
It became independent from the United States when it was granted independence on July 4, 1946.
Independence Day was celebrated on July 4 until 1962, when President Diosdado Macapagal, a Kapampangan from Lubao, moved its date to June 12.
July 4th is now known as Republic Day or Philippine-American Friendship Day.
