It was World Mangrove Day yesterday! Aside from being vital ecosystems on their own, mangroves are essential trees to coastal communities of southern Pampanga, where they provide safety for the community by acting as windbreakers and wavebreakers. They also offer a source of livelihood to local communities with products that can be obtained from parts of the mangrove such as its fruit (palapat) and branches.
