Guiuan Church or the Immaculate Conception Parish Church
Next on our Visita Iglesia list is a church from the eastern part of the Visayas region.
The Guiuan Church or the Immaculate Conception Parish Church located in Eastern Samar is considered a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum. Built by the Jesuits for the Virgin Mary in 1595, the Church was also managed by the Augustinians and Franciscans in different time periods.
The interiors of the stone church of Guiuan are decorated with eight types of seashells, it also features doors with intricate carvings of the Twelve Apostles and angels. Sadly, the Church was affected by Typhoon Yolanda in 2013, with only the bell tower and stone walls surviving.
Through the efforts of the government and donations of various institutions, the Guiuan Church was restored and reconstructed to its former glory.
