Oldest Stone Defense Structure: Torre de Nstra. Sra. de Guia
This tower fort was built in 1587 as part of strengthening Manila’s southern and seaside defenses.
The tower originally rose to a height of 12.8 meters, with rooms for workshops and barracks. However, due to bad construction and sandy foundations, the tower started to crack.
In the 1590s, the upper portion of the tower was demolished and the remaining lower portion was integrated into the new Baluarte de San Diego. New circular structures were built inside the old tower in the 1700s.
