Why Sampaguita is the national flower of the Philippines?

Sampaguita is the national flower of the Philippines because there is a Philippine law known as Proclamation No. 652 s. 1934 which mandates that Sampaguita shall be the Philippines National Flower or Pambansang Bulaklak.

The Sampaguita (Jasminum sambac) has white, star-shaped blossoms. It has a sweet fragrance. It opens at night and wilts in less than a day. The white flowers are often made into garlands and their extract is made into perfumes. It is not a tree. It is a woody vine.

This member of the Jasmine family was introduced in the 17th century to the Philippines and is native to much of tropical and Southeast Asia.”

The 1000-piso polymer banknote not only features our national bird, but also our national flower, the Sampaguita.

The sampaguita represents purity, simplicity, humility, and resilience.

The 1000-piso polymer banknote will be part of the First Philippine Polymer (FPP) Banknote Series, which will circulate alongside the existing paper banknotes starting Q1 2025.
