HAPPY 125th INDEPENDENCE DAY (June 12, 2023)
We used to celebrate Independence Day on July 4. The Philippines became a nation free from colonization on July 4, 1946. It was only in 1964 that the Philippines began celebrating Independence Day on June 12.
The original copy of the Philippine Declaration of Independence Day prepared by Ambrosio Rianzales Bautista is currently housed at the National Library of the Philippines.
The Philippine National Anthem was performed initially without words. The lyrics were only written a year later by Jose Palma, a young poet-soldier who thought of writing a poem to accompany the national anthem.
