Yesterday afternoon, the Manila Chinatown Information Center was opened. It is the latest go-to place for visitors in the oldest Chinatown in the world. The information center is in the Ramada lobby by Wyndham Manila Central Hotel (at the corner of Calle Ongpin and Calle Rosario/Quintin Paredes). The center was an initiative of Ramada Hotel, in partnership with the Nilad Community (of which Renacimiento Manila is part) and the Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Manila or DTCAM.

The centerpiece is the mock-up of a tranvia in the 1920s. The information center features the following:
1. A map of Binondo, as well as free maps of the district by Renacimiento Manila.
2. Binondo and Manila-themed souvenir items such as cards, art prints, tote bags, and shirts.
3. Rentable costumes and attires which include late 19th century and early 20th century Chinese attire, as well as Filipiniana wear. Rentable for two hours for a fee (This will be made available by May 4).
4. The “Best Banyo in Chinatown” for use by guests in the area.

After the launch, there was a quick tour of central Binondo, an inaugural dinner, and a fashion show that showcased the costumes for rent at the information center. For Renacimiento Manila, we are happy to be part of such an endeavor. This is the first of many information centers and tourist centers outside of Intramuros that can and should be opened across the city.
