Remedios Circle – Malate

Established in the middle of the 1800s as the Cementerio de Malate. The cemetery originally had a high circular adobe wall surrounding the property, with a main gate facing towards west. A mortuary chapel was also built in the middle. The cemetery was closed down in 1913 when American health officials modernized Manila’s cemeteries. The structures were demolished before World War 2. The circular space was redeveloped into a park and became the center of Manila’s night scene and fashion from the 1970s until the 1990s.
