Roxas Boulevard Malate

Laid down based on plans by Daniel Burnham to create a scenic seaside boulevard connecting Manila and Cavite City and Naval Base.

Originally called Cavite Boulevard before being renamed Dewey Boulevard after Commodore George Dewey who defeated the Spanish fleet at Manila Bay in 1898.

Completed up to Malate at Harrison Boulevard (Quirino Avenue) before World War 2. Extended to Paranaque after the war.

Renamed in the 1960s to Roxas Boulevard after former President Manuel A. Roxas. Grand mansions and residences once lined the road, with hotels and modern apartment buildings being built in the 1930s. High-rise hotels would be built in the 1970s, and condominiums soon after. Today, it’s only a “seaside boulevard” at Malate.
