Why does the President need to give a SONA?
Because giving a State of the Nation Address is a constitutional obligation of the President of the Republic of the Philippines, as required by Article VII, Section 23 of the 1987 Constitution.
President’s SONA is a vital part of our country’s democratic traditions as it not only reports the status and achievements of the nation but also sets the tone for the government’s priority agenda for the next 12 months and beyond.
