In 1993, President Fidel V Ramos signed RA 7659 which imposes the death penalty on “treason, parricide, murder, infanticide, robbery with rape, mutilation, destructive arson, rape, economic plunder, and drug-related crimes. In 2006 President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed RA 9346 abolishing the death penalty. All those with the sentence of “death” were changed to life imprisonment.

On this day in 2003 American forces captured Saddam Hussein. Three years later he was sentenced to death for “crimes against humanity.”
