When has the Expanded Maternity Leave Act been effective?

Here are important dates to keep in mind.

  • President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11210 or the Expanded Maternity Leave Act
    on February 20, 2019.
  • The full text of the law was published in the major broadsheet Manila Bulletin on February 23,
    2019.
  • The law took effect after meeting the 15-day lapse following its complete publication
    on March 11, 2019. March 11, 2019, is the effectivity date.
  • On May 1, 2019, DOLE, CSC, and SSS signed the implementing rules and regulations (IRR)
    of the law in San Fernando, Pampanga.

     

     

The expanded maternity leave law or RA 11210 is an act increasing the Maternity Leave Period to One Hundred Five (105) Days for Female Workers with an Option to Extend for an Additional Thirty (30) Days Without Pay, and Granting an Additional Fifteen (15) Days for Solo Mothers.

The 105 days is a paid leave with full pay regardless of whether the female worker gave birth via cesarean section or natural delivery.
