Hagbas

The month of September has been declared National Clean-Up Month by virtue of Proclamation 244 signed by former President Fidel V. Ramos on September 3, 1993.

In observance of the National Clean-Up month, we are featuring today a traditional cleaning implements locally known as Hagbas. In rural areas, this indispensable tool or scythe is used to cut tall grass or weeds for clearing. It is an agricultural tool with a sickle attached to a wooden handle and swung with a steady rhythm as the farmer moves forward and repeats the motion.
