Manila Zoo

Officially known as the Manila Zoological and Botanical Gardens. Located along Calle Dakota (M. Adriatico Street) corner of Quirino Avenue.

The Zoo opened in 1959 and was built on an area that was once known as Harrison Park, a large planned parkland at the Estero de Maytubig estuary that was never fully developed.

The Zoo underwent several renovations and developments through the years. Its famous resident was the elephant Mali who recently died in 2023.

The Zoo was closed down in 2019 for violating environmental laws related to wastewater disposal. Manila Zoo was rehabilitated and renovated in the 2020s, reopening to the public in 2022.
