Durian Candy Poisoned More Than 1,000 People

The operation of the company making the Durian Candy was ordered closed by the authorities after more than 1,000 residents were poisoned. The Davao City Health office temporarily ordered the halting of the operation of Wendy’s Durian Candy.

Wendy’s Durian Candy label was found on the wrapper of the Durian Candy which poisoned more than 1,000 residents of Surigao Del Sur and Kidapawan City.

The Davao City Health office took samples of Durian Candy from the manufacturer and sent to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) of the Philippines to be tested and compared against those Durian Candy which poisoned the residents.

FDA’s former name is BFAD or Bureau of Food and Drugs. It is an Agency under the Department of Health.FDA’s job is to license, monitor, and regulate the flow of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, and household hazardous waste in the Philippines. The FDA’s main goal is to ensure the health and safety of food and drugs made available to the public.

The Davao City Health Office observed that the wrapper of the Durian Candy obtained from the manufacturer was different from the wrapper of the Durian Candy eaten by the residents which caused them to be poisoned.

The Durian Candy manufacturer believes that the company’s expired Durian Candy may perhaps be repacked by someone and sold to the victims of food poisoning.

8 persons who sold the Durian Candy have been arrested and they said that they are not aware of the dangers of selling expired candies. The Police are now getting affidavits from the victims which will be used to support the case that the Police will file before the Prosecutor’s office.
