Fabian de la Rosa
On May 5, 1869, Fabian Cueto de la Rosa, regarded as the foremost Filipino painter during the American period, was born in Paco, Manila.
De la Rosa was noted for his realistic portraits, genre paintings, and landscapes in subdued colors.
Among his estimated 1,000 paintings, “Planting Rice” received the golden award at the International Exposition held in St. Louis, Missouri, the USA in 1904. During this exposition, his “The Death of General Lawton” was also awarded the bronze prize.
