From Tamil மாங்காய் (māṅkāy) “mango”, via Malay mangga “mango”
Mangoes originated from the region of northeastern India, Bangladesh, and northwestern Myanmar. It has become the national fruit of the Philippines, India, and Pakistan, and the national tree of Bangladesh.
