Philippines and Guyana: 10 Years of Diplomatic Relations

Today, September 25, we celebrate ten years of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Guyana.

The Philippines and Guyana established diplomatic relations on September 25, 2008.

Guyana is a country on the northern mainland of South America. Guyana is the third-smallest sovereign state in mainland South America after Uruguay and Suriname.

The Philippines and Guyana have no substantial trade relations. Guyana rank 217 with respect to trade volumes in the list of countries with which the Philippines has a trade relationship. This was a 2011 figure.

The POEA identified Guyana as friendly to Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). Friendly in the sense that its existing labor and social laws protect the rights of workers, It is a signatory to and/or a ratifier of multilateral conventions, declarations, or resolutions relating to the protection of workers and It has concluded a bilateral agreement or arrangement with the government on the protection of the rights of OFWs.
